Our Eco Committee

All pupils and staff in our school are members of the Eco Committee. We also welcome parents and members of the community to become involved.

Each year we elect pupils for the roles of Chair Person and Secretary and all other pupils take part in the meetings. Parents/carers and members of the community are welcome to attend these meetings.

Please contact the school if you would like to come along.

Our Eco Code

Find a bin and put it in.
Reduce, re-use, recycle.
Save energy, save our world.
Be a water saver not a waster.
Think healthy, be healthy, live healthy.
Share fun in rain and sun.
Look after the world, it's for our future,

Come on everyone!

Our Eco Action Plan

LITTER

‘Find a bin and put it in!’

We want to take care of our environment and encourage people not to drop litter. Litter is a danger to wildlife and makes our community look untidy. We have created posters to encourage people to put litter in the bin. Each Friday we check our playground and the paths to monitor the litter. We report to the pupils at assemblies and make sure the litter is cleared away.

WASTE MINIMISATION

'Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Save energy, save our world.
Be a water saver not a waster.’

Using less resources will help the planet. We are recycling paper, plastic, metal, bags, shoes, books, clothes and other material. We are taking care not to waste paper and other resources in school. We make our own compost and leaf litter from organic materials we find in school. We switch off all electrical equipment whenever we can. We save water by making sure taps are turned off and collecting rainwater to use in the garden.

BIODIVERSITY

‘Look after the world, it’s for our future.’

We want to make our school environment a place where local wildlife can live happily. We are creating all sorts of animal homes: bird boxes, a minibeast hotel, planting wild flowers, log pile homes and we even looked after some salmon eggs, which hatched and were released into the local burn. Our Nursery class takes care of the birds in winter with their bird feeders.

Our Eco Projects

There is always plenty to do in our Eco Garden.
If you can help at any time please contact the school.
